The Night Sky Watching Programme was successfully conducted on the premises of the Ahalia Astronomy Club Observatory from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m on 13th February 2026
The session commenced at 7:00 p.m. with an introductory address by Dr. Sri Ganesh, who briefed the students about the objectives of the programme and provided an orientation on astronomical observation. The telescope was then carefully adjusted, and students were given the opportunity to observe celestial bodies under expert guidance.
Students were organized into five groups to ensure systematic observation and active participation. During the interactive session, Dr. Sri Ganesh posed several thought-provoking questions related to astronomy. The students responded enthusiastically, displaying keen interest and curiosity. He appreciated their scientific temper and eagerness to explore the subject further.
At approximately 7:15 p.m., students observed Saturn through the telescope. Later, in small groups, they moved to the observatory deck, where they viewed a galaxy and observed Jupiter along with its visible moons. The direct observation through the telescope provided a valuable hands-on learning experience.
The programme concluded with an engaging quiz session to assess students’ understanding. All participants performed commendably. The highest score was secured by Smriti and Nila Prem of Class VI
As a token of encouragement, Dr. Sri Ganesh shared photographs taken during previous observatory sessions, which were distributed to all students. The session officially concluded at 9:30 p.m., and by 9:45 p.m., all students safely dispersed with their parents.
The programme was highly informative and enriching, offering students and teachers a meaningful exposure to practical astronomy.
The next Sky Watching Session is scheduled for 19th February. Further details will be communicated in due course.
